Why an Equitrekking Top 20 Ranch?
Guests who travel to Rankin Ranch are in for an authentic ranch experience. For over 150 years, this California ranch has been a working cattle ranch, and the Rankin family still raises White Face Hereford cattle just as their ancestors did. With the fourth, fifth, and sixth Rankin generations at the heart of the daily life, guests of all ages are welcomed as members of the family.
From the Horse’s Mouth
As one of the oldest and largest family owned ranches in California, there’s a lot of room to roam. By day, guests enjoy horseback riding through varied terrain, including mountain and meadow cattle country, green rolling hills, open fields and amid oak and pine trees. Riding is suitable for all ages, and more advanced riders do get the chance to lope and gallop. Hiking, fishing in the trout stocked pond, and swimming are other daily activities.
Home cooked meals are complete with top quality Rankin Ranch Beef, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh baked breads and desserts. Rudy, the ranch chef, has been with the Rankin’s for over three decades. He enjoys the opportunity to share California country cooking with guests. Summer months bring the chance for suppers on the front lawn of the 1870’s original Rankin Home with delicious steaks served while looking out over the pretty valley of Walker Basin. Breakfasts get travelers fueled up for the day with eggs cooked to order, country potatoes and sourdough toast.
Rankin Ranch’s top notch supervised children’s program has been featured in Sunset Magazine, the Equitrekking Camp Guide and Better Homes & Gardens Vacation Guide. Counselors are on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and join the children again in the evening with planned activities for ages 4-11. Kids enjoy arts and crafts, hikes, and visits to the animal farm.
Rankin Ranch’s headquarters are located in Walker’s Basin deep in the heart of the Tehachapi Mountains. The location of the ranch lends itself to wonderful evenings filled with star gazing, strolls along the ranch’s country road, fishing at Julia’s Lake or playing games on the terrace. Square dancing, bingo, pool and fooseball tournaments with prizes and talent shows are a few of the creative evening endeavors.
Mountain cabins can accommodate 30 to 50 people. There are seven duplex cabins, six regular cabins and one deluxe cabin. Duplex cabins can be taken as a single room, or the two connecting rooms for larger families or parties. Rankin Ranch has daily maid service, comfortable chairs for reading and all cabins are surrounded by the beautiful scenes of nature.
