From the Horse’s Mouth
Averill’s Ranch, Flathead Lake Lodge is just a 45 minute drive from Glacier National Park, though there’s so much to do at this dude ranch, guests typically spend the entire week at the ranch. Horseback riding is available for all ages and skill levels, including riding lessons for kids and adults. Half day rides with picnic meals are a guest favorite, as are guided hikes, mountain biking, sailing, canoe races and happy hour cruises.
This ranch is high on repeat visitors and popular with families, with a range of famous guests throughout history, including former President George H.W. Bush, Bing Crosby and Ben Bugsy Siegel.
Many travelers ask about evening entertainment. Some of the most popular nights at Averill’s Flathead Lake Lodge include the steak fry cookout, live music on the shores of the lake, team roping demonstrations, the classic barn dance, kids overnight tipi campout, volleyball and more.
Home cooked Western cuisine ranges from bison tenderloin, to Eggs Benedict, to fresh caught trout and the ranch’s popular ‘un-done’ brownies. Adults enjoy the ranch’s happy hour with drinks and appetizers outdoors on the deck of the Saddle Sore Saloon overlooking the lake. Kid-friendly meals are always on tap and special dietary restrictions can be accommodated with prior notice.
Flathead Lake rests in the heart of the Flathead Valley, just west of the Continental Divide ringed by the Swan, Salish, Mission, and Whitefish ranges of northwest Montana. Guests enjoy lakeside views juxtaposed with views of the Rocky Mountains of Montana.
Western decorated accommodations ooze cozy ambience. The historic log lodges and rustic cabins have traditional log furnishings and country quilts. Families and groups enjoy being able to stay together in one to three bedrooms in log cabins or one of our historic log lodges with massive rock fireplaces overlooking Flathead Lake. Written up in publications ranging from Vogue to Elite Traveler, Flathead Lake Lodge’s accommodations have a classic American West flair. All accommodations have daily maid service.
Flathead Lake Lodge is located by the “Villiage by the bay”, Bigfork. This charming Western town is home to locally owned art galleries, restaurants, a 27-hole golf course, live theatre and distinctive shops.
